Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and hands-on Production Planner & Shop Manager to oversee and coordinate all aspects of production planning and daily shop floor operations. This dual-role position is critical to ensuring efficient workflow, on-time delivery, optimal resource utilization, and high-quality output. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator with proven planning skills and the ability to lead a team in a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage daily/weekly production schedules based on sales orders, capacity, and inventory availability.
• Coordinate material requirements, lead times, and work orders in alignment with production timelines.
• Monitor progress and adjust schedules to meet changing priorities or address disruptions.
• Collaborate with procurement, engineering, and sales to optimize workflow and material availability.
• Track key performance metrics including on-time delivery, throughput, and efficiency.
• Analyze current production workflows and identify areas for improvement in efficiency, communication, and output.
• Develop and implement standardized procedures, checklists, and visual controls to streamline operations.
• Supervise shop floor personnel, including fabricators, assemblers, electricians, painters, and shipping and receiving personnel.
• Ensure consistent quality control, safety compliance, and operational standards.
• Coordinate routine maintenance and necessary repairs for tools, machines, and facility systems.
• Work with outside vendors or contractors for facility upgrades or specialized repairs when needed.
• Conduct regular performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and support employee growth.
• Set clear expectations and goals for shop personnel; track progress and address underperformance.
• Identify training needs and coordinate on-the-job or external learning opportunities.
• Promote a culture of safety, cleanliness, and accountability among all shop personnel.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience in production planning, shop management, or both.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing workflows, scheduling software, and inventory systems.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement techniques.
• Proficient in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office Suite.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience managing a team of 8-12.
• Familiarity with Sage Inventory Database.
• Experience in fabrication and assembly planning.
• Knowledge of shipping/logistics scheduling and supply chain management.

Work Environment

The role is set in a production environment that is cleaner than typical facilities. Expect hotter conditions in summer and colder in winter, though the office space is climate controlled.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Yorktown, Virginia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50000.00 - $65000.00/yr.
