Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and strategically minded Senior Accountant to join our client's boutique Atlanta law firm, comprised of trial lawyers and business litigators established in 1977 and located in Midtown. Reporting to the Director of Administration and Controller, this role is responsible for providing both hands-on accounting expertise and strategic financial management support.
The Senior Accountant will play a critical role in overseeing the firm's budget, including the preparation and review of variance analyses to support informed decision-making. This position will provide oversight of balance sheet and general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely reconciliations. Beyond daily accounting operations, the Senior Accountant will contribute to financial planning, process improvements, and internal control initiatives that strengthen the overall financial health of the firm.

Core Responsibilities / Day-to-Day Activities

Accounts Payable
  1. Audit, enter, and post vendor invoices and expense reimbursement requests, ensuring compliance with firm policies and federal guidelines.
  2. Research and resolve any balances forward on vendor invoices, and any open invoices on vendor statements.
  3. Ensure collection of form W-9 for new vendors.
  4. Perform rush request and weekly check runs.
  5. Collaborate with Controller on the annual Form 1099 process.
  6. File Georgia sales & use tax returns.
  7. Reconcile vendor and credit card statements monthly.
General Ledger
  1. Manage journal entries for recurring transactions (e.g., payroll, 401(k), HSA, banking, depreciation) and ad hoc requirements.
  2. Research and reconcile various balance sheet general ledger accounts.
  3. Provide support to Controller with partner P.C. account maintenance and reporting.
  4. Perform ad hoc financial reporting tasks.
Accounts Receivable/Cash Applications
  1. Deposit client checks received in-house daily using online deposit technology.
  2. Assimilate electronic payment remittance notifications daily from clients and from online banking platform.
  3. Post payments daily (I.e., checks, ACHs, wires) into client trust accounts, as retainers, and to open AR.
  4. Maintain Excel files for clients with unique billing, payment, and cash application requirements.
  5. Perform billing tasks in a supporting role.
  6. Perform client intake in a supporting role.
Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred. Finance or other business degree considered.
  2. Three to seven years of accounting experience required.
  3. Law firm accounting experience preferred.
  4. Mid- to major accounting ERP system experience preferred.
  5. Strong technical, analytical, and communication skills.
  6. Strong customer service skills.
  7. Process improvement and internal control skills focus.
  8. Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 programs.
