Nuclear Field Sailors are highly trained enlisted personnel who operate, maintain, and supervise the Navy's nuclear propulsion systems that power aircraft carriers and submarines. They play a vital role in ensuring safe and efficient operation of some of the world's most advanced naval technology. The work requires strong technical aptitude, discipline, and the ability to perform under pressure.

Primary Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain the Navy's nuclear propulsion plants, including reactors, steam turbines, and related systems.
• Monitor nuclear reactor instrumentation and control equipment to ensure safe and efficient performance.
• conduct regular inspections, preventative maintenance, and systems test.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and electronic components in the propulsion and power generation systems
• Maintain detailed logs and technical records related to reactor operations.
• Perform radiological monitoring and adhere to nuclear safety and environmental regulations
• Train and supervise junior personnel in nuclear operations and maintenance procedures
• Support ship operations and missions through dependable system performance and safety compliance.

Training

• Nuclear Field "A" School: Foundational technical instruction
• Nuclear Power School: Intensive academic training in nuclear theory, reactor physics, thermodynamics, and electrical engineering.
• Nuclear Prototype Training Unit: Hands-on reactor operation experience on a land-based prototype reactor.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship
• High school diploma ( strong background in math and science required)
• Successful completion of extensive background and security checks
• Must meet rigorous physical and psychological standards
