A KBA Pressman is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and upkeep of KBA sheet-fed offset printing presses to produce high-quality printed materials. They ensure that the press is properly set up, maintained, and adjusted to meet job specifications and quality standards. This includes tasks like preparing the press for a job, monitoring quality during production, and performing necessary repairs or adjustments. 

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

Press Operation:

Setting up and adjusting the KBA press for various printing jobs, including plate mounting, ink and water balance, and other press parameters. 

Quality Control:

Monitoring print quality during production, making necessary adjustments for color, registration, and other factors to ensure the printed product meets specifications. 

Maintenance and Repairs:

Performing routine maintenance on the press, including cleaning, minor repairs, and troubleshooting issues to minimize downtime. 

Documentation:

Maintaining accurate records of production runs, including job specifications, adjustments made, and any issues encountered. 

Safety:

Following all safety procedures and guidelines for operating the press and working in the pressroom. 

Teamwork:

Collaborating with other pressmen, technicians, and supervisors to ensure smooth and efficient operation of the pressroom. 

Training and Development:

May be involved in training new pressmen or assisting with their development. 

Additional Duties:

May be required to perform other duties as assigned, such as stocking supplies, assisting with cleanup, or working with other departments. 

Required Skills and Qualities:

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in operating and maintaining KBA presses, knowledge of printing processes and materials, and experience with color management and quality control procedures. 

Soft Skills:

Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. 

Physical Abilities:

Ability to lift and move materials, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks. 

Knowledge:

Understanding of printing processes, color theory, and press mechanics. 

Experience:

Prior experience with KBA or similar sheet-fed offset presses is generally preferred.

Some positions may require specific experience in areas like digital prepress, color matching, or quality control.
